The first is a revisit for me. A few years back I, along with a friend of mine had two ECW armies painted up. Between us there was about 600+ figures and we based them up for the Piquet ruleset. We had a number of really fun games, but then out of the blue he announced that he'd sold off his army so he could invest in another project. This left me with a big Royalist army and nobody to fight. After a while it was clear I was going to have no use for it so I sold it off.<br />
<br />
The ECW has always stayed in the back of my head though, and its time to scratch the itch once more. Even though I am without any regular gaming friends now I'm in the US I've decided that I'm not going to let that get in the way of immersing myself in this exciting period of English history. So to that end I purchased a couple of units from Perry miniatures to make a start. I know that choice wise it would have been smarter to go down the Bicorne/Renegade route as they have much bigger ranges, but I just love the Perry's figures so I opted for these, hoping that Michael will jump back in and fill in the gaps at some point (especially artillery crews, and possibly some infantry with improvised weapons if you're reading this?).<br />
<br />
I jumped in with a Royalist infantry regt and a Parliamentarian horse unit. I was going to do a specific campaign and orbat, but then I though sod it, I'll just do pretty regt's instead :)<br />
<br />
First up was Haselrige's
Lobsters, just because you HAVE to have them. Its the law.<br />

Next up it's Sir Allen Apsleys Regiment of foote. Just because I liked the picture of them on the original 1644 rule set :)<br />

Quick snap of the Vortigen WIP. Not sure what what to do with the other figure atm. Maybe a sword in his hand, maybe a standard. I have, like 99% 0f <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">wargamers</span>, collected a huge amount of figures and terrain over the years. Its an illness and we all suffer in quiet silence. Quiet happy silence :-)<br /><br />The following is what I am going to focus my painting and gaming efforts on. The rest will be listed here for sale and then <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">ebayed</span>.<br /><br /><strong>Existing Projects</strong><br /><strong></strong><br /><strong><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Teutonics</span></strong> - My first Medieval army, figures mainly GB. Two crossbow units finished and a unit of 12 <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">mercenary</span> knights started. My actual Teutonic Knights are being painted by Dave <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Imrie</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">atm</span>. This leaves me with a unit of 24 <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">spearmen</span> and an artillery piece to finish. I may concentrate on finishing these first.<br /><br /><strong>Hordes - </strong>I love some of the figures in this range so I got a couple of starter sets. I've given the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Everblight</span> set to my good friend <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">RJ</span> to paint up, leaving me with the Circle set to paint. I've not started these yet as I want to spend some proper time on them. I don't predict I'll be getting lots of these figures, just <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">enough</span> for a few fun games. I think I'll just grab the odd piece off <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">ebay</span> if I add to it over time.<br /><br /><strong>El Cid Spanish</strong> - These were started some years ago but were boxed up and forgotten. I have about five units finished for this army and a lot of unpainted figures. Figures are all Crusader Miniatures. I like the units I've done so far so it would be a shame not to finish the project, although its still at the bottom of the list.<br /><br /><strong>New Projects</strong><br /><br /><strong>Early Byzantines vs Goths</strong> - This will be the next big project. I'm going to multi base these for use with Hail Caesar rules. They will be much bigger armies than what I'm used to building which is why it will be a big project. I have a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">number</span> of Goths already done, by myself and some cavalry done by my friend John Mooney. I also have a unit of Saxons finished which I can use as allies for either side.<br /><br /><strong>Terrain Table </strong>- I have some really nice terrain on 2ft squares which make up an 8 x 4 ft table when all together, but I want to make some larger boards that are more generic with movable terrain pieces unlike the other boards. This is something I plan to do in winter. There are some good tutorials online that I will be using. I've not done anything like this before so I'm looking forward to the challenge of it :)<br /><br /><strong>Saga</strong> - The new skirmish rules due out late summer from the chaps at Gripping Beast. I fancy building a couple of warbands for this set of rules. They are great fun to play and require some forward tactical thinking during play. Normans are going to be the first warband, followed by Saxons and then some Vikings. You can get away with 30 figs per side so not a huge amount to do on this one.<br /><strong></strong><br /><br /><strong></strong>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-51936840897925746692011-05-02T08:21:00.000-07:002011-05-02T09:23:01.379-07:00It's been a while....Unfortunately I've had to put painting on the back burner for a good while, mainly so I can could spend more time making figures. I'm now at that point that I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">reallllllly</span> want to get some painting done but what makes it worse is I'm in the US <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">atm</span> so can't.<br /><br />So to fill my time I've been taking <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">inspiration</span> from other painting blogs on the net. Saxon Dog blog run by my good friend David <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Imrie</span> is one of my favourites, and the fact he's currently working on my Late <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Romans</span> makes it even better. He manages to create snapshots in time in his units which along with superb painting, make them an eye feast all round.<br /><br />Another way I'm keeping my <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">enthusiasm</span> going is by planning a project. Now I have the first of my Late Romans out I am thinking of putting a force of these together along with some Goth <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">opponents</span>. Its an <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">interesting</span> period to game and paint and very colourful.<br /><br />While planning this one of the biggest <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">dilemmas</span> is basing and rule sets. Before now I had based all my figures for <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">WAB</span>, and although my favorite <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">rule set</span> seems to be dying on its arse a number of new <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">rule sets</span> have me <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">interested</span>.<br /><br /><br /><br />First of these is Clash of Empires. This is basically written as a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">successor</span> to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_14" class="blsp-spelling-error">WAB</span> and uses the same basing and familiar mechanics that made <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_15" class="blsp-spelling-error">WAB</span> so popular. There are some good twists to the rules though which make it a little more tactical is some ways, and it has more focus on command and control and does away with superheroes. No bad thing <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_16" class="blsp-spelling-error">imho</span>.<br /><br />Next up is Hail <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_17" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Caesar</span>. Now at first I though these would not be what I was looking for, but the more I read them the more appealing they become. This is a set of rules for <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_18" class="blsp-spelling-error">wargamers</span> who are not bothered about competing in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_19" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">tournaments</span> and want a set of rules that can be adapted to work how they want them to work. There are no army lists, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_20" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">that's</span> up to you. At first I thought I wouldn't like them as they were based on how Black Power works, and I thought it would be difficult for me as I don't have a lot of room for a huge gaming table. Hail <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_21" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Caesar</span> does away with the huge moves possible in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_22" class="blsp-spelling-error">BP</span> for a game more in keeping with the period feel. Another plus in my eyes is that basing is unimportant and that means that I can <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_23" class="blsp-spelling-error">multibase</span> my figures as there is no figure removal.<br /><br />I guess I will get painting first and continue to mull over basing for a while yet.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-7625695961506772872010-11-13T01:53:00.000-08:002010-11-13T02:01:18.204-08:00Goths and Corn dollI've actually managed to get some of my Goths painted this week. Really enjoyed painting these for a change. usually I'm not a fan of painting my own figs as I find fault with them as I do them, but these seem <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">OK</span>. Not usually enough hours in the day to paint figs but these had to be done for an advert so had to take a week off from sculpting to get them finished.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih32L_-nXcBISN4JztwPOaxB7zR87ArydmSWAwfli63G5g_meHsJeYeoWWk06j7uXTGApADe_Ja8EgfgdkBv1mm098QO2VyUV-Xj4-SQk-SW0YcQf96fb_t3GmPQ8TED5zdNmlbrwPglE/s1600/Goth-Heros.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 371px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih32L_-nXcBISN4JztwPOaxB7zR87ArydmSWAwfli63G5g_meHsJeYeoWWk06j7uXTGApADe_Ja8EgfgdkBv1mm098QO2VyUV-Xj4-SQk-SW0YcQf96fb_t3GmPQ8TED5zdNmlbrwPglE/s400/Goth-Heros.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538972119715868354" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXv-RCb_5TF3o9YXzHA4XXWcfmcGvaUcR1ASjHHtriEVlziDQ5oqRbIQF4Vot9z45RO0VgzT9hHDxzxjWoVlZk4k_9Y_irG6Dbp2PJAxRUwQUr07GCrNBuB9y1WPGf0D3AYSBAy9fHSw/s1600/Goth-Inf.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 202px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXv-RCb_5TF3o9YXzHA4XXWcfmcGvaUcR1ASjHHtriEVlziDQ5oqRbIQF4Vot9z45RO0VgzT9hHDxzxjWoVlZk4k_9Y_irG6Dbp2PJAxRUwQUr07GCrNBuB9y1WPGf0D3AYSBAy9fHSw/s400/Goth-Inf.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538971993822994562" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The Corn doll is a figure made by <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">GB's</span> own Soapy. As I've been making Goths all month I also started to prep some for painting too. Not much to see though so I'll wait till I've done a little more before posting pics of them.<br /><br />What I have done is the following:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik_h7WguHN6AbzA4jalf0PKbk9Ns96FdKjl16xw7wxIjS8DEUVlI_44LUQJ9aXnDH2A53ZFWIA_sUTrKrPwtnHB0txI9gvUatCJsD28pSwxs0VEnbGDWPxYyg9GFI3JumZa022VRLYShc/s1600/DSC_0401.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 190px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik_h7WguHN6AbzA4jalf0PKbk9Ns96FdKjl16xw7wxIjS8DEUVlI_44LUQJ9aXnDH2A53ZFWIA_sUTrKrPwtnHB0txI9gvUatCJsD28pSwxs0VEnbGDWPxYyg9GFI3JumZa022VRLYShc/s400/DSC_0401.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530517682120019842" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Arab Black Guard Unit<br /></div><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimM01gmyIJ-BuqW8ZzYRbbuqwcTxxc1FlBGlhHc6oRlssVrMEAhmfnRw18snO4MMRM2rSasBP_CTRoJyfhEX1oE7uHvkdPE07b3ED6ja5nEDkO2nzVh5HqIWBKi9aTrIka1OLQvlVRRM0/s1600/DSC_0402.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 189px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimM01gmyIJ-BuqW8ZzYRbbuqwcTxxc1FlBGlhHc6oRlssVrMEAhmfnRw18snO4MMRM2rSasBP_CTRoJyfhEX1oE7uHvkdPE07b3ED6ja5nEDkO2nzVh5HqIWBKi9aTrIka1OLQvlVRRM0/s400/DSC_0402.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530517554844777458" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Teutonic Crossbowmen<br /></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgVPnCRhLJOHjPbii28xKhyphenhyphenNd8b_IpAR8yd4NiMGvos1iJGlgYUyFn9iDZ8GYWebSep3A3Zi5HaUmtwO204oJiAq8yGoC8_yB-OMmid3gk-WcUDFEet1i1A1jTsvQQP5_45VLEM7mN3Vk/s1600/DSC_0400.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 369px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgVPnCRhLJOHjPbii28xKhyphenhyphenNd8b_IpAR8yd4NiMGvos1iJGlgYUyFn9iDZ8GYWebSep3A3Zi5HaUmtwO204oJiAq8yGoC8_yB-OMmid3gk-WcUDFEet1i1A1jTsvQQP5_45VLEM7mN3Vk/s400/DSC_0400.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530517382364869298" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Crusader Knights (for Teutonic Army)<br /></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-23738906266681814272010-10-11T11:57:00.000-07:002010-10-11T12:04:55.206-07:00New Painted Stuff<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEe1s7aixd3Hqtr8qtcDmghkY1aH9_i3qMyNhN25ECPw1SlLIKU5LA8DMGxSgM0sRB62ANZ0kjZoWIXjiTH6JyT_J5huvt6VVoSsb7ByusW_DEj8XScZ2w2gLviBmXSVg4BsmOqkSUOKI/s1600/paintedgeneral01a.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 279px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEe1s7aixd3Hqtr8qtcDmghkY1aH9_i3qMyNhN25ECPw1SlLIKU5LA8DMGxSgM0sRB62ANZ0kjZoWIXjiTH6JyT_J5huvt6VVoSsb7ByusW_DEj8XScZ2w2gLviBmXSVg4BsmOqkSUOKI/s400/paintedgeneral01a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526863736840308386" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT3qLDHDLlfboj-k9AeOPu5h1kmEAJYHK9Y-Ab2LTchs0imw7RJngxpYniifq5BWIvzqoJSpFCxQaEu0qSZ4oG3joi7gCUdGSk8q7G9UbR0QQEPKYZliPMHtegRbJ3mUGl7zaIxzdFGCg/s1600/paintedfootofficer01a.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 317px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT3qLDHDLlfboj-k9AeOPu5h1kmEAJYHK9Y-Ab2LTchs0imw7RJngxpYniifq5BWIvzqoJSpFCxQaEu0qSZ4oG3joi7gCUdGSk8q7G9UbR0QQEPKYZliPMHtegRbJ3mUGl7zaIxzdFGCg/s400/paintedfootofficer01a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526863616425551090" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2BEgeLYD_QoTEzf7E3uKWTSj8wQxIxdMDD_QE645wmWqdg05R0t-zFt77ZJs_GZ3EN8Be-sbQeAEVIx9uv8KEWKEZZPYBkBBAbjVFO9ve1nt2kYxCqe-9kwwr18WNRuHN9bFEhgSeVQg/s1600/paintedsudaneseofficer01a.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 294px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2BEgeLYD_QoTEzf7E3uKWTSj8wQxIxdMDD_QE645wmWqdg05R0t-zFt77ZJs_GZ3EN8Be-sbQeAEVIx9uv8KEWKEZZPYBkBBAbjVFO9ve1nt2kYxCqe-9kwwr18WNRuHN9bFEhgSeVQg/s400/paintedsudaneseofficer01a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526863501968385778" border="0" /></a><br />Its been such a busy month that updates have been difficult. That and no internet didn't help!<br />Still inbetween all the sculpting I have managed to do some painting. Another unit of Crossbows for the teutonics and the start of a unit of Crusader Knight have been done. I'll try and put pics up later this week of them. The day before Derby I was determind to get some of the new Musketeer figures painted up for the display so spent a day doing the following three figs. Its a while since I spent a whole day painting but it was kind of fun. Prepped the next 12 Crossbowmen for painting and will start adding the base colours to these over the next day or so, but won't get much done for about 10 days. Claymore show at the weekend and an impending house move will slow it all down somewhat.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-10670958233035452892010-07-24T07:55:00.000-07:002010-08-23T11:59:22.050-07:00Teutonic's<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rXMcCc_iLlmdkOW3sa7aCsS19PW7eC9hawapMv9rshDCV_SVAtF-QTkrTQMWN-xh0tZAxNwPLBvTYgO1_ELtV0omKSkHYrVOLUFF9Qoy_063f4PSPU2YfVpo9TlkgsCvChdjva1-cNE/s1600/xbows.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 203px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rXMcCc_iLlmdkOW3sa7aCsS19PW7eC9hawapMv9rshDCV_SVAtF-QTkrTQMWN-xh0tZAxNwPLBvTYgO1_ELtV0omKSkHYrVOLUFF9Qoy_063f4PSPU2YfVpo9TlkgsCvChdjva1-cNE/s400/xbows.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497486649323275250" border="0" /></a><br />I've been promising to paint myself a Medieval army for years now and just never seem to get round to it. I still have some of the Perry's lovely <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">HYW</span> figures gathering dust somewhere. Earlier this week I spent a few days down in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Evesham</span> with chums Darren and Andy at Gripping Beast. In between coffee and chatting I found myself once more looking at the lovely collection of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Teutonic</span>'s that sit in their cabinets. I could resist no more. I already have an unpainted unit of the heavy Knights so I decided to knock up a quick army list. After some horse trading I came away with 2 units of Crossbowmen, and unit of Foot Knights and a unit of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Spearmen</span>. I've just spent the past couple of evenings working on the first unit of Crossbowmen which got finished today.<br />I've decided to go for the "get the units on the table sharpish" approach and so these have been base coated, dipped in Army Painter and then had a couple of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">highlights</span> added. Job done! I think this has to be the way ahead for me now as there is just not enough hours in the day to spend ages on each figure. And as I'll be fielding them, its not like they'll be on the table long anyway!! ;-)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-1470007012516468382010-07-16T07:06:00.000-07:002010-08-23T12:00:15.212-07:00Saxons!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijMgyyhfcjY5Jb2HJD1gMMSYt0e5wIC3h9nb4v7C-kpZ48h7c5uKeNGKaTttObgc6FFEpKPvB7yzDVMnOsfGKJPR0xmiir9SnrCwMTqCJr9oHd5XJJ7FdIn82N01niLdPszPtVw_mJVo/s1600/DSC_0250.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 172px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijMgyyhfcjY5Jb2HJD1gMMSYt0e5wIC3h9nb4v7C-kpZ48h7c5uKeNGKaTttObgc6FFEpKPvB7yzDVMnOsfGKJPR0xmiir9SnrCwMTqCJr9oHd5XJJ7FdIn82N01niLdPszPtVw_mJVo/s400/DSC_0250.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494506953051797810" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcMDLbCGmSCNUA1RfJ0d2_FiQK-2-jfGR1FeNWn3J5zDlB5HWPSsyBJWFOyMotUIaXYPCwUz6an_d3ValkLHN_KIk9vrZdaCN3vR6f-cT16R79HwI1eVdTl2EmCHcHVYZtdVnoNr3y04/s1600/DSC_0249.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 255px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcMDLbCGmSCNUA1RfJ0d2_FiQK-2-jfGR1FeNWn3J5zDlB5HWPSsyBJWFOyMotUIaXYPCwUz6an_d3ValkLHN_KIk9vrZdaCN3vR6f-cT16R79HwI1eVdTl2EmCHcHVYZtdVnoNr3y04/s400/DSC_0249.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494506839283997458" border="0" /></a><br />Had a bit of a blast at getting my first Saxon unit done this week. There was only 8 figures needed to finish it off so I decided to try and get them all done and did. This unit has been painted over a long period of time so there are about 3 or 4 different painting styles within it, but I don't think it makes a big <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">difference</span> when they are all based up. Inspired by <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Messrs</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Imrie</span> and Hilton's way of making their figures look grubby and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">battle worn</span> I dirtied mine up. The first 15 Romans are done with the last 3 undercoated and ready to go. Played around with the first of the shield transfers last night. They look great but don't fit all the way around. I think this is more to do with the shields being out than the transfers, but no matter, once the edges have been painted in they look fine. I'm putting the first two ranks on 40x40 bases so I can use them for Impetus as well as <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">WAB</span>. How big are the swords?????? HUGE things. They'll have to go so will either trim them down or replace them with home made metal ones. Never tried it before but I think it could look good.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481607882762105009.post-704765347416130162010-07-04T13:13:00.000-07:002010-08-23T12:00:44.887-07:00What 'ave the Romans ever done for us...?This is the start of an irregular blog to help me focus on getting back into wargaming. I have been working in the Wargames industry for some years now and have found that my hobby has slipped away, replaced by work. Not a good thing as all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and Jill a rich widow!<br /><br />The release (long awaited!) of WAB 2 has spurred me to once more take up gaming. I enjoy playing WAB, and although not the perfect game. it is fun, and thats the point of wargaming isn't it?<br />Enticed back into it by chum Tim Haslam I have had a couple of games now, all set in the classical period. As I don't make any figures for this period I had to look at what army I'd like for it. I settled on Caesarian Romans in the end. One reason is that I have always liked the Foundry ones made by Mark Copplestone, and two, because I was able to buy 4 well painted units and got given a pile of them all within the same week. So now, thanks to Steve Marshall and Dave Imrie respectively, I now have a lead mountain to paint up for the first time in a few years.<br /><br />As I have already got 4x 18 fig units already I set about using these as the core for a 2000 pt army. The first unit up for painting was a unit of Elite Legionares to act as the armys shock troops. I've opted for 2x 15 man units, but this may change to just one 18 man unit yet. Still debating :)<br /><br />Today I managed to get them started. I was going to use dip and then just highlight them, which is a wonderfully quick and effective method of producing wargames figures. Unfortunately I left my dip back at work, so I decided to paint them properly. They are the Elites after all!<br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMT5WQiNl3c6kTbtDa3aW5M1bxWqgxn0yga1OZHKlJYaHoccpI22VuGJHQMSl6FKklWDGwBT0aMh0zQ5j0nGsXzpeO2fZ_oMVAFo19jGKb2gkOdY-MQxp3rjGuniDNQ9KdPP5Q6zK9Yjc/s1600/DSC_0209.JPG"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMT5WQiNl3c6kTbtDa3aW5M1bxWqgxn0yga1OZHKlJYaHoccpI22VuGJHQMSl6FKklWDGwBT0aMh0zQ5j0nGsXzpeO2fZ_oMVAFo19jGKb2gkOdY-MQxp3rjGuniDNQ9KdPP5Q6zK9Yjc/s320/DSC_0209.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490151906097483202" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_4CySqCcHj-XVRawDUeTXIc6YcFmawr9_U3-9CTZhdFnxn8EyFlVqSAjyT_-aXekFuYCYux0pTsk_gL0agd-PST4O5YzYnb8wJhSiN90tBRs70c7kFX6Y3HQgDeb1uRmyMTwcHR8wTgQ/s1600/DSC_0212.JPG"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_4CySqCcHj-XVRawDUeTXIc6YcFmawr9_U3-9CTZhdFnxn8EyFlVqSAjyT_-aXekFuYCYux0pTsk_gL0agd-PST4O5YzYnb8wJhSiN90tBRs70c7kFX6Y3HQgDeb1uRmyMTwcHR8wTgQ/s320/DSC_0212.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5490153181455263714" border="0" /></a></div><br /><br /><br />I was rather pleased with my efforts for the first day. I managed to get 7 figures including the Centurian finished less the shields which will be done last. I have some LBM transfers for them, but debating whether to just hand paint a design on. I'll see how I feel when it comes to doing it :)<br /><div style="text-align: left;"> </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09603344912805177620noreply@blogger.com4
